A delighted Tigers Head of Youth Pete Riding said: “Jamel is a player with huge potential. He is big, quick and strong and I look forward to seeing how he develops in our environment, he was first brought to our attention whilst playing college Rugby for Halifax ERA.”

Gareth Greenwood of Halifax Elite Rugby Academy said: “We are delighted for Jamel, he has worked hard since joining Halifax ERA and made considerable improvements in our environment whilst also playing for Keighley Cougars. This is not only a great opportunity for Jamel but sends a clear message to our Academy players who show the same potential and attitude that a pathway into Super League Academies is now firmly in place. We were happy that Castleford were keen that Jamel finished his education and journey with us as we support him onto his next step.”

This signing is the first in a recent partnership that has been arranged by the Tigers and Halifax Elite Rugby Academy. It is anticipated that this alliance will also provide further opportunities for late developing players and widen the Tigers player and recruitment pool whilst providing a potential pathway for youngsters on the academy programme into the professional game.
