Wakefield Trinity 34 Halifax ERA 12

A strong Wakefield team too much for Halifax ERA | 31/01/2018

WAKEFIELD COLLEGE gained their revenge for Friday's defeat at Siddal with seven-try victory over Halifax ERA on the 4G pitch at Dewsbury Rams.

(Report by Paul English)

In a repeat of the game at Siddal it was Wakefield who had the brightest start, scoring before Halifax had touched the ball for an unconverted try.

Aided by a penalty the home side battled against the wind and moved the ball to the right for centre Jack Croft to force his way over.

Seb Blanco lost the ball inches from the Wakefield line as Halifax attempted to battle back. But it was Wakefield who increased their lead with loose forward Moris Kamano charging over by the posts for a try that was converted by Connor Bailey.

Halifax finally crossed with Jordan Paga sending Myles Harrop over in the left corner. From the touchline Rourke Wolley booted a magnificent conversion.

The home side had scrum-half Stephen Gibbs despatched to the sin bin ten minutes before the break, the half-time interval saw Wakefield leading 10-4.

Eight minutes into the second half the home side extended their advantage with an attack down the left that saw Bailey send Croft in for his second.

Now playing against a fierce wind Halifax’s restart was grabbed by Harry Dodd. He shot away for back-to-back scores, Bailey’s conversion giving the home side a 20-4 lead with 52 minutes played

Halifax’s Jos Landu powered over at the side of the posts with his try converted by Woolley. But before you could blink that score was cancelled by a try from home scrum-half Stephen Gibbs.

Another try, just three minutes later, from Dodd and converted by Bailey not only extended the home side’s advantage to 30-12 but put the game safely to bed for Wakefield College with 16 minutes remaining.

Substitute Arnydas Serkia rounded off the scoring for the hosts with five minutes remaining.
